THE GRAVIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF PHOSPHORUS IN MONAZITE SAND (MAGNESIUM PYROPHOSPHATE)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4241791

A known weight of sample is fused with potassium hydroxide. The cooled melt is leached with water and filtered. The filter is ashed and fused with potassium solutions are combined and, after neutraliztion, the phosphate is precipitated as ammonium phosphomolybdate. The precipitate is filtered off and dissolved in ammonia solution. This solution is neutralized and the phosphate precipitated as magnesium ammonium phosphate by the addition of magnesia mixture and ammonia, The precipitate is filtered off and purified by dissolving in dilute acid solution and re-precipitating. The precipitate is filtered off, ignited to magnesium pyrophosphate, and weighed. (auth)
