ELECTROMAGNETIC TRANSITION PROBABILITIES IN ODD-A MERCURY ISOTOPES

Journal Article · · Arkiv Fysik
OSTI ID:4819634
The following half lives of low excited levels in the oddA mercury isotopes were determined using delayed electron-electron coincidence measurements: 0.8 plus or minus 0.1 nsec for the 39 kev level in Hg/sup 193/; 7.0 plus or minus 0.2 nsec for the l34-kev level in Hg/sup 197/; 2.53 plus or minus 0.l5 nsec for the l58-kev level in Hg/sup 199; <0.2 nsec for the 32-kev level in Hg/sup 201/.A recently proposed decay scheme for Hg/sup 195m/ was confirmed by electron-electron coincidences and it was found that one of the low lying levels has a half-life of 0.79 plus or minus 0.07 nsec. Transition probabilities are given and compared with the single particle estimates. Experimental delayed coincidence techniques and difficulties due to the low energy of the radiations involved are discussed. (auth)
