THE INFLUENCE OF OXYGEN ON THE PHOTOSENSITIVITY ON URANYL NITRATE SOLUTIONS IN TRI-n-BUTYLPHOSPHATE

The influence of oxygen on the absorption spectrum of a 0.0215 M solution of uranyl nitrate in tri-n-butylphosphate irradiated with the monochromatic light was investigated. It was found that a photochemical reaction product which strongly absorbs light in the region of near ultraviolet is formed with the participation of oxygen, probably resulting in a peroxide compound of uranium (VI). In the irradiation in a de-oxygenated solution, uranium (IV) is formed and only insignificant changes occur. (auth)
