Gene-controlled reactivation of ultraviolet-inactivated bacteriophage
Journal Article

Results are reported from studies on the reactivation of ultraviolet-inactivated bacteriophage which indicate a difference in ultraviolet sensitivity between the closely related phages T2 and T4. For any given survival level, T4 was found to need about twice the ultraviolet dose as T2, although these two phages contain approximately equal amounts of desoxyribonucleic acid and do not differ noticeably in their sensitivities to x rays or incorporated P32. Possible mechanisms involved in gene-controlled reactivation are discussed.
