MULTIPURPOSE READOUT SCALER

A multipurpose scaler base unit is described which provides increased versatility through more effective use of the modular plug-in circuit approach. The unit is a useful building block for automatic counting systems and contains circuitry needed for coupling to electromechanical parts such as sample changers. It also simplifies the addition of scaling capability to kicksorter readout systems. Any number of the base units can be coupled to form a counting system of any desired capacity; reading out with an electric typewriter or paper-tape punch. By choice of suitable standard plug-in units, resolving times as low as 0.25 mu s may be obtained. A wired program plug can be readily modified by the operator to change readout format and counting sequences. (auth)
