PROPERTIES OF FLASH WELDED MOLYBDENUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4818977
A technique for flash welding arc-cast, 0.5% titanium-molybdenum alloy bar stock was developed. The as-welded properties of the joint were determined at room temperature. Flash welded bars were processed into sheet material and the properties of the cold-worked specimens obtained over the temperature range of 2200 to 3200 deg F. The feasibility of applying the flash welding process to the fabrication of molybdenum alloy rings and cylinders was demonstrated. Such parts can be used as structural members, or, more importantly, as preforms for production of hardware by metal-moving techniques. (auth)
