HIGH ENERGY FRAGMENTS EMITTED DURING THE ABSORPTION OF SLOW $pi$$sup -$- MESONS BY O$sup 16$ NUCLEI (in Russian)

The disintegration of a nucleus by a slow pi - meson is analyzed. The analysis indicates that the O/sup 16/ nucleus is disintegrated into Li/sup 8/, Be/ sup 7, and n. The kinematic characteristics of the disintegration products are such that the Li/sup 8/ and Be/sup 7/ fragments could be produced only as a result of direct interaction between the pi - meson and two nucleon groups, the masses of which are approximately equal to the masses of the observed fragments.
