RUBIDIUM AND CESIUM EVALUATION PROGRAM. Report No. 2. Quarterly Technical Report, May 1-June 31, 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4818720
Work is being performed to provide materials compatibility and physical and thermodynamic data on rubidium and cesium metals at elevated temperatures. Equipment was constructed and installed in the rubidium corrosion capsule program. Helium leak testing of all capsules was completed. Rubidium was purified and analysis for oxygen was carried out. A Nb--1% Zr alloy was selected for fabrication of a pumped loop for testing of a suitable containment material for cesium liquid and vapor under dynamic conditions at high temperatures. The design modifications made in the loop are outlined. A study of the various possible methods of measuring the density of liquid cesium from its melting point to 1800 deg F was undertaken. (M.C.G.)
