METALLURGICAL EXAMINATION OF URANIUM-RICH TERNARY ALLOYS CONTAINING MOLYBDENUM AND CARBON

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4818596
Ternary alloys containing uranium, molybdenum, and carbon were investigated with the purpose of reducing the concentration of molybdenum in binary uranium alloys. Carbon was chosen because UC increases the molybdenum concentration in the remaining metallic matrix which would very probably improve its stability under irradiation.Three uranium-molybdenum alloys containing respectively 1 and 2 wt% carbon were thermally treated and the obtained structures compared with the binary uranium-moIybdenum alloys of the same composition. Changes in density for molybdenum and carbon addition are also given. (auth)
