Radioactive Air-Borne Dusts in Japan
In order to find the reason for differing radioactivity of rainwater samples collected at nearby laboratories at the same time in the fall of l96l, autoradiographs were made of the air-borne dusts collected on large filter papers. Some of the resulting spots were extremely active, and it is concluded that the rainwater discrepancy is due to a small number of highly radioactive particles in fall-out. Autoradiographs were also made on wild arrowroot leaves. Gamma spectra of a dust sample and of a particle found on a polyethylene bottie left outdoors are given. (D.L.C.)
