Scintigrams of thyroid tumors were taken following the administration of I/sup 131/ in 163 paticnts. A negative image of the nodules, defects of image on one side, or a deformed defect of image of the lobe of the thyroid were seen on the scintigram when the tumors were malignant. An enlarged image of the lobes was found in benign tumors. When the scintigraphic image of nodules, the so- called hot nodules, was positive it was an indication of a benign tumor.
