THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN X-RAY DOSE AND TWO-HIT ABERRATIONS AS SCORED AT METAPHASE AND ANAPHASE OF MITOSIS (thesis)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4817988
The relationship between the dose of x rays and the frequency of two-hit chromosome aberrations in the Allium cepa root tip was explored. The relationship between the x-ray dose and anaphase brldges was found to be linear. The relationship between the dose of x rays and metaphase rings and dicentrics was found to be nonlinear. After an analysis of the results and the probable relationship between dose (D) and two-hit aberrations (A) scored as metaphase rings and dicentrics was found to be A = 0.05954D/sup 1.373/. The production of Allium cepa anaphase bridges was found to be dose rate dependent at the dose rates used. When the dose rate was raised there was a significant increase in two-hit aberrations.
