CONTROL WORTH OF B$sub 4$C RODS

An analytic model was developed for transforming a linear array of cylindrical control elements into an equivalent slab which has the same worth. The model was applied to a simple cell using a multigroup code. For a strong 1/v absorber in high concentration, such as B/sub 4/C rods, it was found that the standard three-group scheme was not sufficient. It was necessary to break up the epithermal group into three groups, resulting in a five-group calculation. It appeared that the ratio of total worth to thermal worth as calculated is slightly higher than would be expected from experiment. (auth)
