THE PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF PRELIMINARY IMMUNIZATION OF ANTIBODY SYNTHESIS IN TOTAL X-RAY IRRADIATION

Immunization with heated paratyphoid B vaccine, carried out before irradiation of rabbits (600 r), normalized the synthesis of antibodies to human serum injected 24 hours after irradiation. The same protective effect was observed with the reverse schedule of immunization. Where rabbits were injected simultaneously with two antigens 24 hr after irradiation, the synthesis of antibodies to both antigens was disrupted. Preliminary injection of a foreign protein may be regarded as an unspecific factor facilitating normalization of the immunogenetic processes in cases of radiation sickness. (auth)
