A position indicating device is designed for giving indication of the limit positions of reactor shut-off rods. The device comprises a single magnet attached to the shut-off rod and a pair of magnets spaced apart on the indication member in such a way that when the shut-off rod is in a ''in'' or''out'' position, like poles of one magnet of the pair are spanned by the single magnet with consequent deflection of the indication member. When the rod is in an intermediate position, no deflection of the indication member occurs. The device can be operated within a reactor at temperatures up to approximates 600 deg C. (D.L.C.)
