DETERMINATION OF THE MULTIPLE SCATTERING OF CHARGED PARTICLES IN NUCLEAR EMULSIONS (in French)

Journal Article · · Ann. phys.
OSTI ID:4817752
As an introduction to the determination of the multiple scattering of charged particles the different methods used for the measurement are reviewed. The emulsion method was used for study at both high and low energies. The tangent method was used to study the multiple scattering of n mesons coming to rest in emulsions. The background was eliminated and the multiple diffusion constant was determined and compared with theory. In the study of highenergy particles, protons of 2.1 and 6.2 Bev, an attempt was made to reduce or elirninate errors such as background and parasitic scattering. The surface method and the center-of-gravity method were applied to the study, and the results were compared. Ilford G5 emulsions were used; they were developed by the usual method with no special precautions. (J.S.R.)
