IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4817668
feed water and steam is used to raise saturated steam, which in turn is used to form a second mixture of feed water and steam for raising further saturated steam and finally superheated steam. The proportions of steam and water in these mixtures before passage through the reactor core are 10 to 20 wt% and 90 to 80 wt%, respectively. The advantages of such a reactor are that such mixtures of steam and water are superior as a heat transfer medium steam or water used alone and that fuel elements in the non-superheating passes are operated at relatively low temperatures and hence can be canned in zirconium.
