GAMMA-GAMMA DIRECTIONAL CORRELATION IN TITANIUM-46 (Ti$sup 46$)
The gamma-gamma directional correlation in Ti/sup 46/ involving the 1.12 Mev-0.89 Mev cascade was measured at ten angles between 90 and 180 deg in ten- degree increments with a conventional scintillation spectrometer using NaI (Tl) crystals, differential pulse height analysis, and standard coincidence techniques. The spectrometer was calibrated using the two cascade gamma rays of Ni/sup 60/. The Ti/sup 46/ source strength was such as to give a true-to-chance coincidence ratio of 4. The experimental results strengthen the assignments (2+) and (4+) to the first and second excited states of Ti/sup 46/ respectively and are consistent with the conclusion that the 1.12 Mev gamma ray is probably pure E2 radiation mixed with less than 0.005% plus or minus 0.002% M3 radiation.
