THE CYTOCHEMISTRY OF BLOOD PLATELETS IN ACUTE RADIATION SICKNESS (in Russian)
The cytochemistry of blood platelets was studied at different stages of acute radiation sickness in monkeys and dogs. Acute radiation affection leads to grave functional disorders of intra platelet metabolism (in the content of cytochromoxidase, glycogen, histodin, sulfhydryl groups, lipoids, and plasmal). After the action of ionizing radiation in the thrombocytes, a sharp reduction of the levels in all the above substances, as well as changes of the nature of their localization, is noted. In a favorable issue of acute radiation sickness, a reversibility of cytochemical changes of blood platelets is noted; the cytochemical shiftts occur parallel to the regenerative processes in the thrombocytic apparatus, as well as to the disappearance of hemorrhages and thrombocytopenia.
