A STUDY OF SEVERAL METALS AS REDUCTANTS FOR YTTRIUM FLUORIDE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4817437

A study was made in which several metals were used to reduce YF/sub 3/ in a metallothermic process. The effectiveness of these reducing agents was compared to that of calcium metal as a reductant for YE/sub 3/. Lithium metal and a Ca-Li alloy were found to be efficient reductants when used in an intermediate alloy process. Other metals that were investigated as reducing agents for YF/sub 3/ included magnesium, aluminum, sodium, and zinc. (auth)
