GENETICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON THE EFFECT OF RADIATION ON HUMAN CELLS GROWN IN VITRO. Progress Report No. 1

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4817065
BS>Cell cultures derived from human fetal brain and lung tissue were irradiated. Doses varying from zero to 150 rads were applied and the effects measured by a determination of the frequency of post-metaphase chromosome aberrations. The most significant increase of postmetaphase aberrations occured after a dose of 22 to 23 rad and reached a high of 15 to 20% of the scored cells at a dose of 135 rad. Brief discussions are also given on investigations on associations between chromosome aberrations and pathological conditions in man, mongolism triploidy, and congenital heart malformations and chromosomal aberrations.
