THE RESPONSE OF DROSOPHILA TESTIS TO X-RAY INDUCTION OF DOMINANT LETHALS

Journal Article · · Atti Associazone Genetica Italiana (Italy)
OSTI ID:4817061
Data are presented which suggest that to call a 3-day batch of sperms of Drosophila melanogaster as done in dosage-frequency experiments, an homogeneous sample is erroneous. A 9-day sensitivity spectrum includes all stages from mature spermatozoa to spermatocytes. The highest sensitivity to x rays is localized in the meiotic stage. In the oxygen effect there are two processes working independently from each other. These include the increase in the breakage of the chromosomes and an effect on the amount of rejoinings of the breaks. (auth)
