APPLICATIONS OF THE SIMPLIFIED SPHERICAL HARMONICS EQUATIONS IN SPHERICAL GEOMETRY

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4816544
The simplified spherical harmonics equations are derived in spherical geometry. With the aid of the spherical harmonics equations in simplified form, it is shown that the main mode eigenvalue of a bare spherical reactor is equal to the second mode eigenvalue of the equivalent slab, provided that only P-0 and P-1 scattering components are present in the sphere. The equivalent slab is a bare slab having a thickness equal to the diameter of the sphere, and a composition which is the same as that of the sphere. (auth)
