Radiation Effects on Zinc Oxide Catalyst in Dehydrogenation of Ethyl Alcohol

Journal Article · · Nature (London)

Results are reported of irradiation effects on the catalytic behavior of zinc oxide prepared by ignition of zinc carbonate. Irradiation was found to increase the amount of hydrogen formed by dehydrogenation of ethyl alcohol and to decrease the amount of ethylene formed by dehydration over the temperature range 330 to 390 deg C. It is concluded that irradiation raises the Fermi level of the catalyst.
