BETA FIELD DOSE RATE DETERMINATION FOR ANGULAR RESPONSE WITH THE SOUP BOWL DOSE RATE METER

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4816387
The Soup Bowl dose rate meter is evaluated for determining the beta field dose rate for an extended source and the magnitude and characteristics of its correction factors. Correction factors were calculated as the ratio of the total integrated dose rate independent of angular response to the total integrated dose rate dependent on angular response. Correction factors were determined for source sizes from 6 to D2 inches in diameter and for source-plane to chamber distances from 4 to 32 inches. The maximum correction factor was found to be 1.1 plus or minus 0.5, occurring at a source-plane chamber distance of 12 inches for a 73-inch diameter source. The high energy particles contributed no significant change to the readings. and thus the high and low energy cases were considered as one. (N.W.R.)
