PLASMA DISCHARGE APPARATUS

An apparatus designed for forming an energetic ion plasma and bringing about thermonuclear reactions. The apparatus comprises an evacuated container with a confining magnetic field oriented along the container axis and magnetic mirror fields at both ends of the container. In operation, coaxial arc discharges are struck in the container with a potential gradient in-between, whereby trapping of the ion plasma is effected between the discharges. (D.L.C.)
