STRUCTURE OF ZIRCONIUM ALLOYS (in French)

Journal Article · · Mem. sci. rev. met.
OSTI ID:4815913

S>The structure of Zr alloys was studied using the Schulz method. Films obtained by transmission photography complement the results. The basic and pyramidal planes of the hexagonal structure were examined. Zircaloy-2 products in the form of extruded or drawn tubes have textures in which the (0001) base planes are parallel to the tube axis. The (1011) pyramidal planes are situated near the tangential plane. Drawn tubes have a less pronounced texture than the extruded ones. Annealing sharpens the structure described. The texture of plates or sheets is the same as the recrystallization texture whatever the last transformation stage, whether hot or cold rolling. The (0001) base planes and (1011) pyramidal plane are almost parallel to the rolling direction. The rate of cold rolling must be very high in order to recover the rolling texture. Forged and coldrolled samples of Zr--U alloys have the same texture as cold-rolled Zr. Annealed samples keep the same recrystallization texture even after further cold rolling. (tr-auth)
