SLIP CASTING CALCIUM OXIDE

Journal Article · · American Ceramic Society Bulletin (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4815522

A procedure for slip casting calcium oxide, which was similar to that used for other oxddes, was developed. Due to the hydration tendency of calcium oxide it was necessary to use fused or calcined material and a nonaqueous suspending agent. Isobutyl acetate was found to be a satisfactory casting vehicle. Additions of oleic acid and triethanolamine were necessary to reduce the viscosity of the slip, and firing was accomplished in either oxidizing or reducing atmospheres. High density calcia was found to have excellent hydration resistance. The resuits of tensile strength measuredments are reported. (auth)
