SLIP CASTING CALCIUM FLUORIDE AND LIME-STABILIZED ZIRCONIA

Journal Article · · American Ceramic Society Bulletin (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4125758
Techniques are described for the preparation of articles of chemically pure calcium fluoride and lime-stabilized zirconia by slip casting from ethanolic suspensions. Stable slfps with good casting properties were obtained with both materials. The use of alcohol as a vehicle avoids the rapid deterioration of molds encountered with aqueous acidic slips and in this respect is convenient for the routine preparation of complex shapes in the laboratory. The effect of water on the viscosities of calcium fluoride and alumina slips is described. (auth)
