An Analysis of the Chicago Synchrocyclotron Personnel Doses Over a 6-year Period

Journal Article · · Health Physics
Results of an analysis over a 6-year period (1954-1959) are presented. lncluded are of history and operational data of the Chicago Synchrocyclotron, comparative dose data by groups and years, and radiation incidents. In addition, doses greater than 0.3 rem/week are correlated with their causes and major operations are ordered according to their dose-producing potential. The aim is to provide a basis for dose estimates and work schedule construction, as well as to present a view of the synchrocyclotron from a health physics standpoint. ln general, the average yearly dose per man tended to decrease, within the frame of current maximum permissible limits. Weekly overdoses were greatly reduced in 1958 and 1959.
