ULTRASONIC IMPREGNATION: PREPARATION OF LOW PERMEABILITY GRAPHITE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4814594
BS>Ultrasonic impregnation of graphite with furfuryl alcohol resin was briefly investigated. More effective impregnation per cycle was observed and lower permeability was measured for a total of five impregnation-carbonization cycles. Control specimens of ATJ-82 were reduced to only 33% of their original permeability compared to veloped commercial grade of graphite appeared to have a permeability about one-thousand times that of the ultrasonically impregnated specimens. Further lowering of permeability appeared possible through additional ultrasonic impregnation. (auth)
