Spectrophotometric Determination of Ruthenium with 2-Nitroso-1-Naphthol

A sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of ruthenium is based on the color reaction of ruthenium with 2-nitroso-1-naphthol in 3M hydroehlorie acid saturated with sulfur dioxide. The colored species exhibits maximum absorbance of 600 m mu . Simple salts of ruthenium such as ruthenium chloride can be determined in the presence of uranium without a prior separation. Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range, 1 to 10 mu g Ru per ml. The relative standard deviation is about 5%. The molar absorptivity of the colored species is approximately 6500. (auth)
