THE EFFECT OF SULFATE ON THE EXTRACTION OF URANIUM BY DILUTED TRIBUTYL PHOSPHATE. Topical Report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4814231
The effects of sulfate and nitrate ions on the extraction of uranium into TBP-hexane were studied. Concentrations of uranium in the starting solutions ranged from 0.l5 to 480 g/l. Sulfate ions decrease the distribution coefflcient for uranium, but the magnitude of the effect depended on the concentration of uranyl nitrate and of total nitrate ions in the aqueous phase. The higher the concentration of uranyl nitrate, the smaller the effect of sulfate in preventing extraction. (auth)
