SPACE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS ON SEALS, GASKETS, ADHESIVES AND OTHER ELASTOMERIC AND POLYMERIC MATERIALS: AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
Issued as an Addendum to the Space Materials Handbook. This bibliography contains 558 selected references on seals, gaskets, adhesives, sealants, and other elastomeric and polymeric materials under space conditions. Environmental conditions that will effect materials in space are exposure to high vacuum, service temperatures, and radiation. Radiation includes ultraviolet and high-energy radiation as appropriate to the application of the material. Any application of adhesives in fabricating pressurized containers and attaching solar cell plates were included as were any tests conducted on materials used for seals and gaskets in contact with reactive fluids such as, hydrazine, UDMH (unsymmetrical dimethyl hydrazine), N/sub 2/O/sub 4/, and red fuming nitric acid. Materials used for inflatable space vehicles and structures are included as general applications of plastics or polymers. These references were compiled for the years 1951 to 1961. A material index is included as a possible aid in locating specific materials. (auth)
