A study of the angular distributions of alpha particles exciting the second 2+ state of Zn/sup 64/, Zn/sup 66/, and Zn/sup 68/ was made, using 43-Mev alpha particles. Comparison with the elastic angular distributions showed that in the cases of Zn/sup 64/ and Zn/sup 66/ the transition (0+ yields 2+) was not direct, but should be interpreted as a double excitation process. For Zn/sup 68/ the two processes (direct and double excitation) competed. (auth)
