A liquid evaporating apparatus is designed which is suitable for concentration of radioactive waste liquids for storage. The apparatus comprises an upright tubular evaporating vessel with a liquid inlet at its lower end and a vapor outlet at its upper end, a heater surrounding the vessel, and an economizer in the form of a pipe helically coiled around the heater so that the liquid is preheated prior to its entering the evaporating vessel.
