NATURAL CONCENTRATION OF KRYPTON-85, CARBON-14, AND TRITIUM IN RECENT YEARS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4811299
Kr (10 to 50 ml) was collected at Tokyo from liquid oxygen obtained from a small-scale nitrogen liquefier. A remarkable increase in the concentration of atmospheric Kr after the middle of 1960 is shown. Atmospheric CO/sub 2/ was collected at Tokyo by absorption in NaOH solution, and the radioactivity was measured. Tree rings were analyzed for C/sup 14/ and tritium concentrations. The concentration of C/sup 14/ and of tritium in the tree ring are regarded as an annual mean value of the C/sup 14/ concentration in the atmosphere and of the tritium concentration in rain water. The concentration of atmospheric C/sup 14/ had a maximum value at the beginning of 1960, and the concentration of tritium decreased after 1959 with a half life of about one year. The data are tabulated. (P.C.H.)
