Tritium and Carbon-14 in the Tree Rings

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan

Measurements were made of the concentration of C¹⁴ and tritium in the tree rings of recent years in order to obtain the annual mean concentration of the atmospheric C¹⁴ and of the tritium in the rain water. The data on C¹⁴ showed a tendency of the concentration to decrease after 1960, and it seemed to have a maximum value at the beginning of 1960. The same was true for tritium concentrations. The data suggested a stratospheric residence time of 1 to 2 years. (M.C.G.)
