THE REACTION OF PuF$sub 4$ WITH OXYGEN

Journal Article · · J. Inorg. & Nuclear Chem.
The reaction of PuF/sub 4/ with dry oxygen was studied at 750 to 900 deg C. There was some evidence for the production of PuF/sub 6/, but if this is formed, the rate of reaction is several orders of magnitude slower than that of the corresponding reaction of UF/sub 4/ with oxygen. PuF/sub 4/ does, however, appear to be volatile in a stream of oxygen at these temperatures. No trace of plutonium oxide was found in the tesidue. (auth)
