THE USE OF $gamma$-QUANTA BY THE REACTION OF /cap alpha/-PARTICLES WITH FLUORINE AND BORON NUCLEI IN ESTIMATING THESE ELEMENTS IN ORE CONCENTRATES (in Russian)
The content of varlous elements ln ores and concentrates can be determlned by selectlvely countlng the gamma actlvlty lnduced by alpha lrradlatlon. The method ls selectlve and rapld. Thus, ln determlnlng the content of fluorite (CaF/sub 2/) ln NaSTAAlSl/sub 3/O/sub 8/! (feldspar), the 1.24-Mev gamma -quanta of Ne , resultlng from the reactlon F/sup 19/( alpha ,p)Ne , ls selectlvely counted to glve the fluorite content. The content of fluorlte ln beryllium concentrates can be similarly determlned by countlng the 1.24-Mev gamma -quanta and the gammas havlng an energy >3.4 Mev, and then applylng a correctlon. Boron was determlned ln the presence of ascharite (MgHBO/ sub 3/) and dolomite by countlng the 2.3- and 3.8-Mev gammas from N/sup 13/ and C/ sup 13/ whlch are products of the reactlons B/sup 10/( alpha ,n)N/sup 13/ and B/ sup 10/( alpha ,p) C/sup 13/. All gamma -quanta havlng energles of <2 Mev were discriminated against. This method can also be used to determine the content of fluorlne and boron ln solutlons and alloys. (TTT)
