Machining studies were performed on pressed and sintered unalloyed W, 90Ta-10W alloy, molybdenum TZM and Mo-0.5% Ti alloys, and D6AC steel quenched and tempered to 56 and 58 R/sub c/. The investigation consisted of drilling tests on W; face milling, end milling, drilling and grinding on 90Ta-l0W alloy; turning and end milling on Mo alloys; and turning, face milling, slotting, end milling, reaming, grinding, distortion studies and residual stress analyses on D6AC steel.
