BS>Focusing chroinatography was applied to determine Cs/sup 137/ in the burned fuel solution of the reactor JRR-1. Perfect separation of Cs/sup 137/ from the other fission products was possible within 5 to 10 min under suitable conditions, as follows- the fuel solution was diluted to 1/1000 with distilled water; a complexing agent, viz., 0.5 M citric acid or 0.05 M EDTA, was used; the pH gradient of both solutions between anode and cathode was pH l.5 (HCl)-3.1 (EDTA) or 4.3 (citric acid); the applied voltage was 700 to 900 v/20 cm. After separation, the autoradiographic technique was used to decide the positions of separated lines. The identification and determination of Cs/sup 137/ and the other nuclides were carried out by measuring gamma -activity and spectra of their separated lines cut from the strip. The results were used for the determination of the burn-up of JRR-1 fuel. (auth)
