MEAN LIFE OF THE NEGATIVE MUON IN CARBON (thesis)

Positive and negative muons are stopped and their decay observed. The composite mean life of these muons is calculated and the negative mean life in carbon is computcd from the compositc data. Results of calculations show a composite mean life in carbon of (2.087 plus or minus 0.037) x 10/sup -6/ sec, and the negative muon mean life in carbon is (1.94 plus or minus 0.08) x 10/sup -6/ sec.
