PULSED NEUTRON MEASUREMENTS ON BERYLLIUM OXIDE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4809462
The diffusion parameters of some beryllium oxide slabs were measured by the pulsed neutron technique using the ANPD 11.6-Mev betatron at Evendale with the results: nu EPSILON /sub a/ = 655 sec/sup -1/ and vD = 1.17 x 10/sup 5/ cm// sup 2/sec. Thus th e macroscopic absorption cross section of the beryllium oxide for 2200 m/sec neutrons is: EPSILON /sub a/= (3.0 plus or minus 0.2) x 10/sup - 3/ cm/sup -1/; the diffusion constant: D = 0.46 plus or minus 0.03 cm.
