PULSED NEUTRON MEASURMENTS ON PLEXIGLAS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4801487

The diffusion parameters of Plexiglas were measured at 25 deg C by the pulsed neutron technique with the results: 4/ sec/sup -1/, 10/sup 4/cm/sup 2/sec/ sup -1/, and C = 0.00 plus or minus 0.04 cm/sup 2/. Quanitative data derived from these parameters show that the macroscopic absorption cross section of Plexiglas for 2200 m/sec neutrons is SIGMA /sub a/ = (0.0195 plus or minus 0.0005) cm/sup -1/; the diffusion constant, D = (0.136 plus or minus 0.004) cm, the transport cross section of the hydrogen atom in Plexiglas, SIGMA /sub tr/ (H) = (38.7 plus or minus 1.2) barns, and the diffusion area, L/sup 2/ = (7.9 plus or minus 0.3) cm/sup 2/.
