COMPARISON OF ALPHA-PARTICLE ENERGIES FROM Po$sup 210$ AND Po$sup 214$ AND THE ENERGY OF Po$sup 210$ ALPHA PARTICLES

The energies of alpha particles emitted by Po/sup 210/ and Po/sup 214/ were compared using a broad-range spectrograph. Techniques were the same as those used in a comparison of the Po/sup 210/ alpha energy with the Li/sup 7/ (p,n)Be/sup 7/ reaction threshold energy. The result agrees with other measurements, and the discrepancy between the Po/sup 210/ alpha energy measured against the Briggs value for Po/sup 214/ and the Po/sup 210/ alpha energy measured absolutely or against the Li/sup 7/(p,n)Be/sup 7/ threshold remains. If Rytz's absolute value for the Po/suip 214/ energy is used, the discrepancy disappears. The alpha energy from Po/sup 210/ is about 5.3045 Mev. (auth)
