The influence of the rachitogenic diet of Steenbock and Black on the elimination of Sr/sup 89/from the skeleton was studied in rats. Elimination of Sr/sup 89/ was slowed down after the induction of rickets, while at the same time hypoplasia and hypertrophy of the skeleton contributed to increasing radiation damage to the bone marrow. The usefulness of the results in evaluating the seriousness of any contamination with radiostrontium and the therapeutic possibilities is stressed. (auth)
