THE DETERMINATION OF RADIOMOLYBDENUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4808561
Exchange is establlshed between radiomolybdenum and Mo carrier in a solution containing iodine carrier and potassium permanganate. After scavenging with ferric hydroxide, the Mo is extracted as the alpha -benzoinoxime complex into ethyl acetate, with subsequent stripping into dilute ammonia solution. After repeating the extraction procedure, the Mo is finally precipitated as lead molybdate, which is counted. The method is applicable to solutions of fission products in nitric or hydrochloric acid, and finds particular application in the determination of Mo/sup 99/ The coefficient of variation should not exceed 2% under favorable countlng statistics.
