S>A reactor using fuel pellets fluidized by coolant flow is designed so that it may be used to breed new fuel materials, to irradiate materials, and to produce radioisotopes. The reactor has a tubular partition enclosing the pellet fuel bed which may be filled with pellets or fertile material or with reflector pellets. The reactor also has means for introducing and removing pellets from various zones of the fuel bed; the pellets are made of different densities or masses, and conduits are provided for removing pellets from different zones of the bed.
