The equilibrium diagram of the system Ni-Ru was investigated by a combination of thermal, microscopic, and x-ray methods. Ni-Ru alloys show a peritectic reaction with a largely extended field of solid solution at the peri tectic temperature. The solubility curve of the Ru-rich solid solutions shows a slight retrograding. Between the peritectic temperature (1490 deg ) and 600 deg the solubility curve of the Ni-rich phase drops from 29.7 at.% Ru (42.2 wt.%) to 3.1 at.% Ru (6.2 wt.%). In the same temperature range the solubility curve of the Ru-rich phase drops from 45.7 at.% Ni (35.4 wt.%) to 7.2 at.% Ni (4.5 wt.%). In the field of Ni-rich solid solution the hardness ts considerably tncreased with increasing Ru content. Alloys with a maximum content of 30 at. % Ru (42.5 wt.%) are easily deformable by cold-rolling and cold-forging. The deformability decreased markedly with higher Ru contents. (auth)
